We can all agree that 2017 was an abomination of a year worldwide, especially with the excessive amount of violence circulating from country to country, and the horrific uprising on past discrimination,  it’s safe to say that humanity needs to do better for the rest of 2018. We’ve had a calm start to the year, yet some people seem to think it will be just as bad while others have kept great optimism. People continuously tell themselves that the year will be the best one yet, but could anything actually happen unless the world gets it together? In order to do better, we need to actually put in the effort to do so.

First, we should most definitely work on this big issue we seem to have with racism and  sexual harassment due to the excessive amount of news stories that are circulating all around the media. We need to focus on becoming people who instead of reporting these terrifying stories, try to prevent them from happening. Put down your social media and realize the issues real people are going through, a simple ‘like and share’ won’t fix the world automatically. It’s astonishing that people view the majority of the world through a skinny, tall screen and still only see a small percentage of the disaster.

With humanity at such a high judgemental rate, there’s no surprise there is so much hatred traveling amongst the population. It’s obvious that it has decreased over the years, yet the old “trend” of bashing on others beliefs, race, and basic sexual orientation has begun to make an appearance once again. The problem with society is that they are so used to automatically viewing any social or world issue in a negative perspective in which someone is always at fault rather than justifying the situation and figure out how to keep it from happening again.

Overall, the year can only get better if people actually put in the effort, energy, and hard work to make it happen. Although 2017 seemed like a complete failure for most, it means there is  more room for improvement which everybody needs to desperately take advantage of. The anticipated year of 2018 has just begun, let’s avoid the travesty of the previous year by simply doing better.
