The TED-Ed club will host its first event on May 22, 2026 from 4-6 p.m. The event is the first to take place in KatyISD, and will be hosted in Seven Lakes’ performing arts center.
“I’m really excited for it because I think a licensed event like this brings a lot to Seven Lakes and a lot of the public speaking we currently have,” president Amisha Agrawal said. “I feel like this is something that anyone can be inspired [by] and join next year.”
The event will feature various student speakers on topics such as student mental health and the effects of social media. Agrawal said featuring various topics makes the event diverse yet inspiring.
“Each talk specifically has a very student-based call to action,” Agrawal said. “I think students can get a lot to take away from this about personal growth and thriving in our contemporary society.”
Preparing for the talk was both exciting yet challenging. Agrawal had to obtain permission from the official TED-Ed organization and manage event-based logistics.
“I learned a lot of things about organizing such a talk,” Agrawal said. “But coordinating with Ms. Pride [was] really helpful in the whole process, and I used a lot of her [AP] seminar skills to help our speakers work with her.”
The event is open to the whole community, and audience members can enter at no cost. Agrawal said empowering the community is at the center of her mission for this event.
“I just hope to see a lot of teachers and faculty there so we could really see the different perspectives of students in the school,” Agrawal said.
