Walk the Moon “What If Nothing” Album Review

Walk the Moon What If Nothing Album Review

Walk the Moon is a name that is often immediately associated with Shut Up and Dance, the band’s smash hit from their 2014 album TALKING IS HARD. The song’s astounding success thrust the band into the spotlight, making “Walk the Moon” a common name associated with the song one that everybody knew.

However, their success started earlier than the hit single; the Ohio band made a name for themselves with their debut album Walk the Moon that was released in 2012. The self-titled album consists of the song Anna Sun, a classic amongst the alternative and indie scene which received high praise from the music community. The band includes members Nicholas Petricca (lead vocals and keyboard), Kevin Ray (bass and backing vocals), Sean Waugaman (drums and backing vocals), and Eli Maiman (guitar and backing vocals).

In 2017, the band released their album What if Nothing, and excited fans globally. The album was their first in three years and the successor to TALKING IS HARD. With big shoes to fill and hit singles to follow, the band released the album.

What if Nothing includes singles One Foot, Headphones, Surrender, and Kamikaze. The band’s electric sound stayed true to their energetic rock brand, but the album brought a new energy and vulnerability both musically and lyrically. The album’s inclusion of heavy drums, guitar, and even a synthesizer makes for the perfect crossover between 80’s rock and modern day alternative pop.

While it may have seemed to be difficult to follow a multi-platinum hit like Shut Up and Dance, Walk the Moon has never failed to produce successful and meaningful music.
