JJ Watt,

You all know the story, College football Walk on turned to the number 11 draft pick in the NFL to being named DPOY 3 times in his first 5 seasons. It’s no question that JJ watt has been everything the Houston Texans have asked for and more. However in light of his recent injury, i wanted to put a spotlight on his work off the field instead of on.

First and probably most well known right now is how he helped raise over 32 million dollars for Hurricane Harvey relief and almost assuredly has the city of Houston behind his back for the rest of his life.

The JJ Watt Foundation, which focuses mainly on middle aged kids and getting them involved in athletics in order to build teamwork leadership qualities and accountability. His foundation also annually hosts a charity walk, Golf outing, and tailgate and charity softball game. These events all help raise money for his organization so he can help more and more kids

One of the most successful campaigns he has done with his organization is the Annual Charity Celebrity Softball Game. When he first started the game, it was hosted at constellation field. However now that the event has become one of the bigger occasion each year, it has now been hosted at Minute Maid Park to be able to hold all of the fans.

“JJ Watt is the greatest defensive player of all time and I think that allowed him to raise all the money for Harvey” senior Garrett Carr said.

“JJ Watt is a good idol, someone who all Texans should aspire to be like” sophomore Jose Mata-Gooptar said.

JJ Watt has done a lot of work for Houston and his outreach has certainly been shown and influences others.

“He inspired me to go and volunteer because of how he started with a small goal that ended up as a multi million dollar fundraising campaign” Mata-Gooptar said.

“While can’t say that he personally influenced me I have been out volunteering” Carr said.

Getting out and volunteering is easier then one might think. Being inspired helps, but regardless, being a volunteer is a great way to help others.

“Given how much he raised for Harvey, I think he could help raise awareness for Teen Pregnancy and AIDS” Carr said.

JJ Watt’s influence could help with other growing issues as well. If you would like to donate to any of his causes then go to his foundation’s website.
