A Day in the Life of a Spartan

Because the heavy air conditioning hits me as I walk into the arctic building, my blanket has become my best friend as well as a fashion trend along with slip-on sandals and sweatpants. As I walk in the halls, I see thousands of sleep deprived teenagers. This is a description of a typical high school.

Whoever complains about traffic on the highway has simply never experienced the traffic in the hallways of a large Texas high school. Getting to class early is hardly an option, unless it’s in the same area of the school, go ahead and shamefully take the tardy. Speaking of traffic jams, getting into the school in the mornings takes just as long as spending the day there. The best way to get to school on time is walking, taking the bus, or becoming besties with my first period teacher in an effort to get some grace with tardies.

It also looks like the cafeteria isn’t just for eating, because upon entering students are either doing next periods homework, shouting across the table and using this time to catch up with friends on which teacher is ‘failing’ them. Who needs peace and quiet anyway?

I’m so tired in the mornings, my fashion sense is out the window. Pulling leggings out of my closet to wear with an oversize tshirt on the daily; I pray every day that I don’t get dress coded. My wardrobe consists of an abundance of navy and orange shirts with a Spartan logo. Yet I can’t resist when a new $5 spirit shirt comes out – the more, the better.

Hopefully these four years are memorable for every student and they make the most of all the quirks that come along with it; and remember to stay classy!
