Thirty-six Seven Lakes High School students out of 200 KatyISD student-athletes were named Academic All-State by the Texas High School Coaches Association earlier this year, recognizing achievement in both academics and athletics.
Students must be nominated by a coach and are evaluated based on Grade Point Average, moral character, and good standing with the team. Honorees are placed accordingly on the elite, 1st team, 2nd team, or honorable mention levels.
Students cited time management and support from their coaches were a key factor in maintaining good grades alongside demanding athletic schedules.
“I felt pretty grateful that the work that I put in balancing both athletics and coursework gets recognized since it can be pretty demanding at times,” senior Albert Acosta said. “Especially during tough practices or a hard school week, it felt nice that my efforts were acknowledged.”
