The release of the new season of Stranger Things has caused a stir around the world, becoming the number one show in more than 90 countries, with viewers excited for what the end of this beloved saga will offer.
Stranger Things, originally released in 2016, will come to an end on Dec. 31, with its final episode released simultaneously on Netflix and in cinemas. The series concludes a story that has accompanied many viewers since they were very young, giving them the feeling of growing up alongside the characters and experiencing their adventures throughout the show.
“I pretty much feel like I grew up with the show because every time a season dropped, I was in a different stage of my life,” senior Ines Consuegra said.
Set in the 1980s, the show blends science fiction with horror and suspense, creating an immersive adventure. Many viewers believe the time period enhances the plot and overall appeal of the series.
“The fact that it’s set in 1983 makes the series more interesting and brings nostalgia to adults,” junior Jorge Rojano said.
Today, the series appears to be a guaranteed success for any streaming service. However, Stranger Things almost never existed, as the Duffer brothers, the creators of the show, pitched the idea to multiple networks before facing repeated rejection.
“I just love everything—I mean, it has action, drama, special effects, monsters, and psych,” senior Juana Vera said.
Netflix ultimately took a chance on the Duffer brothers, allowing them to produce the show, which went on to become one of the platform’s most successful series. Fans credit its success to the action, the overarching story, and the detailed portrayal of the world of Hawkins and the Upside Down.
“They have everything well thought out and well organized…everything is very well planned, so they must have been working on it for many years,” Vera said.
Fans are eagerly awaiting the final episode of the series, set to release on Dec. 31, hoping that long-standing mysteries surrounding the Upside Down and Vecna—unresolved since Season 1—will finally be answered, giving the series a satisfying conclusion.
“The effort they’ve been putting in since Season 1 is actually going to be worth something,” Consuegra said. “I’m expecting the climax of the show to finally be resolved.”
Despite the show’s success, some fans worry that the high expectations may not be met in the finale.
“I feel like they’re scared of killing any character,” Rojano said. “My biggest fear is that the series will have a bad ending, especially in terms of writing.”
Regardless of what happens on Dec. 31, fans say they are grateful for the action and adventure the show has delivered since 2016, with many calling it one of the best series of all time.
“I think it’s marvelous because it mixes fiction, reality, and emotion,” Consuegra said. “You really feel like the characters and feel like you’re part of the story.”
