The xx are an English band formed in 2005. Members Jamie “xx” Smith, Romy Madley Croft, Oliver Sim, and past member Baria Qureshi released their debut album xx in 2009. With an eccentric style, the band is classified as “indie-pop”, “dream-pop”, and “indie-electronic”. Their second album Coexist was released in 2012 and ranked number 5 on Billboard 200 at its peak. The band released their third studio album I See You on January 13, 2017, and it is definitely one for the charts.

The album starts with the song Dangerous which is a somewhat upbeat tune that lives up to their genre expectations and then transitions into songs such as Performance and Brave For You which give off solemn vibes with the mellow instrumentals and Croft’s soulful voice. Because of Croft’s unique vocal style and the band’s “dream-pop” standard, The xx have become a staple band in the indie/alternative realm of music. Songs like I Dare You and Lips have seamless transitions and astounding harmonies that carry the album to the finish. I See You consists of 10 songs, but the amazing talent laced into the entire album makes the small number of songs feel infinite. The album also contains singles On Hold and Say Something Loving which have been hits among indie music fans. I See You finishes with Test Me which contains haunting instrumentals and backing vocals as well as an eccentric and unique style.

Since the album’s release, it has gained an overall rating of 4.5 stars which reflects the quality of the band’s past music, their current album, and the band in general very well.
