Being a student in Katy ISD, opportunities are abundant and always right around the corner. Whether it’s playing for a sport that goes to state giving you exposure to coaches and teams or being on a debate team that has consistently been Top Ten in the nation but some opportunities come in the form of a trip.
Veterinary Medicine at Miller decided to give their students a new, and completely unique opportunity by taking them all the way to Orlando Florida for some real world experience. “Vet Med has a lot of Disney interns there [where you can] talk to them … and we also [get] to see backstage on the safari and learn about animal care,” Kenzie Vuckovic said.
Through Miller, both Vet Med and Criminal Justice students got to go to Disney and experience an in-depth tour of how the park’s veterinary workers do their job for whatever animal they need to take care of. Students got to see exotic animals like a baby tiger or just regular domesticated animals that also deserve exemplary care. They got to ask questions not just about what a worker’s job entails but also how they got started at their job and what the job application process was like. And after all the learning another type of fun starts. Students got to split into groups and go off and experience Disney World at their own pace and leisure. Some students were given exclusive access and even some fun foods to try at the Wild Africa Trek.
Overall, students got to experience learning about their future profession while riding and food. It was a special experience: students got to relive a big part of their childhood while they were actively growing up. They were in an in-between looking at their past while walking towards their future.
“It was cool to finally see the trip happen,” Vuckovic said. “It was just really cool to experience a trip like that in Florida to Disney with people I knew for awhile and making new friends and becoming closer with them.”
