Although the end of the year often stresses more on seniors and their futures, some juniors might already be taking the opportunity to think about theirs as well. After the first two months of this new year, a lot of students have been looking forward to the spring break not only to be together with their families or friends but also to visit other places. For instance, junior Elianna Grinberg is going to visit Britain, Ireland, and Scotland during the break.
“I’m really excited to see … a red double Decker bus and … the red telephone pole that they use in Doctor Who and that One Direction album,” Grinberg said.
Apart from visiting Israel, Grinberg has stayed in Texas most of her life, so this trip means a lot to her and her family.
“My mom’s never left the country and she really wants to go see Ireland [because] they have these cows called Hairy Coos; they’re just hairy cows and really cute,” Grinberg said. “I’m actually really excited because I’m going to be in Ireland on Saint Patrick’s Day and we’re seeing a parade.”
Unlike the U.S. where cultures are easily blended together, European countries can differ a lot from one culture to another.
“It’s our dream place to visit and the weather is nice and cold, so we’re not going to be sweating or anything like that and.” Grinberg said. “[There’s] good food that we can try and we’re also going to go see some theater in London, which would be really cool.”
Junior Rin Nakashima moved to the U.S. this year from Japan. Whilst the students here are enjoying their spring break before the last stretch of school, Japanese students are already at the end of their school year, preparing for next year.
“I like the U.S. schedule better because in Japan, we had final exams after our summer vacation,” Nakashima said.
Nakashima’s grandparents came from Japan to visit her family here. Her grandparents have lived in New Jersey before, so they planned to visit New York altogether during the break.
“I’m going to Soho for the first time and I’m so excited to go shopping with my grandma,” Nakashima said.
