This idea is quite random. I love reading and food is my love language. So, I decided to combine those two things together. Here is a list of the foods I would like to eat when I am reading these books.
1) House of Sky and Breath – Sarah J. Maas (Baked Potato Soup and Pesto Sandwich)
This book is a must read because the plot is action-packed and immersive: it would pull you in and you would get addicted quickly. So, you would want to eat a meal that is plain enough to not distract from the book, but delicious to where you can still enjoy the taste of the food. The best thing to go with would be a soup, it’s still delicious even though it’s not different with every bite. Baked Potato Soup would be the best for this because its creamy, thick cheesy broth would be heavenly, but familiar. You know all the flavors, so there are no unfamiliar textures and flavors to divert your attention from your reading. Plus, a pesto sandwich would pair with it nicely.
2) Get a Life, Chloe Brown – Talia Hibbert (Kettlecorn)
It’s a contemporary rom com. Of course, you would eat something for your sweet tooth, but not too sweet because there is still that comical aspect of the book. Also, something non- spillable because I don’t want to stain my shirt or my book because I’m going to be fully engaged in the plot. Plus, I’ll probably be screaming and clutching the book close to my chest while aggressively swinging my feet in the air because the male lead did something swoon worthy or the witty best friend said something that made me burst into laughter. And, you don’t want something that spills easily or is a choking hazard. So, Kettle Corn would be perfect for this because its salty and sweet taste parallel with the romantic, yet playful sides of the book.
3) The Song of Achilles – Madeline Miller (Spicy Ramen with lots of vegetables )
The book is a tearjerker. It’s a deep, moving book with an arguably sad ending. Because of that, you would want to eat some comfort food. Ramen would be perfect for this because it’s comforting and warm. The delectable ramen broth would warm you up inside when the book doesn’t, and the spice wouldn’t bother you as much because I would already be crying from the pain the author causes. Plus, The crunch from the vegetables will give me something to take your sadness out on. It will be such a delicious yet sober experience.
4) War Girls – Tochi Onyebuchi (Croffle)
Science fiction books have complex storylines. It’s hard always trying to decipher the characters and to figure out the setting. So, you should eat something that matches the complexity of the book, Something like a Croffle. It’s confusing as it sounds; is it a croissant or a waffle? It can be sweet or savoury and dressed up and down. It would be a perfect snack companion for this book because it can be anything you want it to be – super fancy, plain, sweet or salty – which matches the whole vibe of a sci-fi book.
5) Six Crimson Cranes – Elizabeth Lim (Fried chicken)
I just read this book and let me tell you… I would recommend this be eaten with something you can put in your mouth without so much effort. I read this book, with hood up, music blasting in my ears in fetal position, I was able to finish it in a span of 4 class periods. It’s the most perfect book to cuddle up with on a cold day. I would eat it with fried chicken because it would send you into a food coma that would be the cherry on top the whole reading experience.
