Humans of Seven Lakes: Spartan Games Winner Mrs. Flora
What class do you teach?
I teach AP World History.
What was your strategy for getting past the elimination rounds of the Spartan Games and moving on to the final four?
I really didn’t have a strategy. I was telling my kids it was for a good cause. And I was letting them know, even if they didn’t donate for me to donate to some teacher, and I think it actually worked out in my favor.
Who was your biggest competition in the Spartan Games?
Oh, I thought it was going to be Mr. Aziz. We have a lot of the same students, and so a lot of my students were talking a little smack saying Mr. Aziz was going to win.
What did you have to do to win at the pep rally?
For that I also had no strategy. I went in just thinking to have fun, and it was a lot of fun.
How did you pick which students to be on your team?
I had students volunteer and then I picked the students that I thought would do well under pressure.
How did you feel when you won the Spartan Games?
It was really good. It was a lot of fun, and I really am excited to keep the trophy in my classroom now.
What is your favorite thing to do outside of school?
Travel. I love to travel throughout Europe and hopefully further than that as well. [I went to] Spain a couple of months ago.
If you weren’t a teacher, what would you do for a job and why?
I would probably be a museum curator. I love history. So museums, I would probably be working in museums.
