Valentine’s Day for Singles

A Guide to Having the Best Valentine’s Day Without a Significant Other

Ah, Valentine’s day… the day when couples drown each other in ridiculous amounts of chocolate and single people drown themselves in tears. But don’t worry – for all my fellow single people, here are a couple tips to help you make Valentine’s Day the best day ever:

1.Buy a gift for a friend

Valentine’s isn’t just for lovers, it’s for friends too! Just go to the store, walk past the chocolate, jewelry, and abnormally large teddy bears to the cute cards with lollipops in the corner. It’s the thought that counts.

2.Get your favorite Ice Cream

Ice cream is a delicious delight sure to make any day great. Grab a spoon, your favorite ice cream, and your laptop and start binging all your favorite romantic comedies. And of course, that box of tissues next to you is totally just in case you spill your ice cream.

3.Have a sleepover with your friends

Spending time with others is a great way to take your mind off your apparent loneliness. Get some movies, games, snacks and drinks. Also, check your phone about every 5 minutes, just to make sure your friends haven’t backed out to go on a “surprise date” with their significant other.

4.Buy your own valentine

Every school has their Valentine’s fundraiser – carnations, roses, singing valentines. Don’t worry about having a significant other, buy yourself one! Make sure to sign it from: anonymous, that way when you get it and act surprised, no one will think you bought it for yourself.

5.Just ignore it

The easiest way to make Valentine’s Day better, is to just act like it’s not happening. As you make your way through the day, don’t pay any mind to the couple exchanging gifts in the hallway or the one obnoxiously making out under the stairs, or by the lockers, or right in the middle of the hallway.

6.Find fellow singles

On valentines day, there is no shortage of single, lonely people looking for someone to talk to. Whether they were single before Valentine’s Day, or have just recently been given the boot, Valentine’s Day can provide you with a multitude of new friends.

7.Make it a joke

When you’re feeling down, just make it a joke. You know, like give a prank Valentine to the girl/ guy who stole your girl/ boyfriend because they are the only reason you have no one on Valentine’s Day, so why should they get to be happy while you just sit alone on the sidelines. Or you can just make prank Oreo’s, that works too.
