Cross Country District Results

Moreno, Katie M (SLHS)

What an amazing performance by all of our ladies cross country  teams this past Friday. They competed at the District 19-6A Championships and advanced to the Regional Championships for the 13th time in school history.  The course was flat and dry and temperatures were ideal for running.  The times reflected this as many young ladies ran personal bests.  All three teams that competed, finished in 3rd place, and our varsity finished high enough to qualify for the regional championship in Huntsville on Monday October 22nd at 8:30 am.

On the freshman level, the Spartans finished with 71 points, behind Katy’s 42 and Tompkins 27.  The girls ran well all season, and a lot of progress has taken place.  So proud of these young ladies and looking forward to the future.  The team that ran included:

  • Leaah Chang      8th place              13:43
  • Luann Drake       9th place              13:43
  • Joanna Wang     15th place           14:20
  • Reagan Smith    19th place           14:44
  • Hayaa Shahid     20th place           14:45
  • Brylea Shmidt    21st place            14:55
  • Tofunmi Jewisimi             22nd place          14:55

On the JV level, the Spartans finished with 55 points, just behind Katy’s 50, while Tompkins scored 35.  The girls were paced by 3 top ten finishes, and the team performed very well.  Again, many PR’s were scored by this group.

  • Giana Mannone                               6th place              21:00
  • Shannon Smith                 8th place              21:21
  • Angelica Ruzanova          10th place           21:39
  • Ximena Diez                       15th place           21:57
  • Sarah Zdansky                   16th place           21:57
  • Angel Perret                      17th place           22:06
  • Mirya Dila                            23rd place           23:09

On the Varsity level, the girls fought hard and ran an exceptional race. Once again the Spartans finished in 3rd place with 61 points, edging out Cinco’s 65, while still maintaining striking distance with Katy’s 54, and Tompkins 40.  The girls will travel next Sunday and spend the night in Huntsville prior to running on Monday the 22nd. 6 of 7 runners ran PR’s on the fast course and 5 of our ladies won All District Honors.
