Humans of Seven Lakes: Reagan Kallina

“Last year, [my family] discovered I have Celiac Disease, which is an autoimmune disease that prohibits the body from being able to process gluten.  My struggle has been constantly feeling sick, some days it’s a struggle to get out of bed. But I refuse to let that keep me down.

I lead our high schools Best Buddies chapter. Being selected to be president of our Internationally recognized Best Buddies chapter has been my greatest achievement. Best Buddies has shown me what inclusion and acceptance is about. The buddies have made a profound impact on my life. They live life to the fullest with  smiles on their faces every day. They always strive to have that mindset on a daily basis.

I have been involved in kickboxing for four years. Kickboxing is not only a physical sport it’s mental as well and requires a lot of focus. When you bow in and walk on the mat you are to leave everything going on in your life at the door and focus solely what you are doing at the moment. It has helped me become a more disciplined person in my life. Kickboxing has given me the mindset to push through even when I feel my worst. I’m even set to test for my black belt this May.

I love to travel as much as I can. I have been raised volunteering in different areas, it makes me appreciate what I have and has shown it is really important to give back.

My parents are the most inspiring people in my life. I look up to my parents and how loving, compassionate, and caring they are. I am so thankful to say that i get to call them role models. My older brother, Cameron, is also an extremely influential person in my life. I admire his perseverance and “never give up” attitude. Six years ago he joined our school’s wrestling team, completely nonathletic, and I got to watch his hard work and dedication payoff when he placed fifth at state his senior year.

I will be attending Stephen F. Austin majoring in Business and minoring in Special Education. I then plan on getting my Master of Business Administration. Once I graduate from college my plan is to continue my work further with Best Buddies.”
